"I have been playing guitar off and on for over 20 years, and I’ve gotten guitar lessons from 3 different instructors prior to coming to Duluth Guitar Academy. I’ve also taken piano and drum lessons, so I’ve seen my fair share of music instructors.
I took three years of classical guitar lessons with Jake until other time commitments required me to end my lessons. Jake is by far the best music instructor I’ve ever had. He is extremely knowledgeable about guitar and communicates well. There were times I had trouble nailing a technical piece, and he would break it down to the smallest chunk and work through it with me. I never felt like we were just going through the motions, and I was always blown away by the level of detail he could think about a piece and how to apply it to me. And if I was struggling with motivation, we’d work through it. he’d suggest some other pieces that were wonderful, or even a few times we played some heavy metal together.
When it comes to scheduling, he’s very flexible and willing to work around your needs. He can do both in person and virtual lessons too. Half hour or hour sessions if you want.
For someone of his skill, knowledge, and ability to teach, I can’t believe how low his prices were. I think this stems from his passion for the instrument and the enjoyment he gets from teaching. If you are considering lessons, Jake is your guy. He’ll get you where you want to go."

"What I have valued most in my work with Jacob, a period of once-a-week, one-hour lessons for a little more than a year, has been his willingness to take on as student this senior retiree, having the limited skills and competencies of an “advanced beginner” (about a dozen years ago I took lessons elsewhere for while), and remedially develop techniques of effective playing (many things I never learned before), while also encouraging and helping me to take on and enjoy performing more challenging work. Clearly, Jacob’s own work over many years as a student, a performer, and a teacher have given him the pedagogical wisdom, technical insights, and spirited enthusiasm for beautiful playing, things that I have experienced on many occasions in working with him."

"Jacob is a fantastic guitarist. I appreciate not only his skill and knowledge of the guitar, but his ability to communicate that in a way that allows me to learn and facilitate my own journey to becoming a classical guitarist. I highly recommend him to anyone interested in learning guitar."

"I've been bringing my 2nd grader for lessons with Jake for about a year and a half. Jake is patient, professional, and good natured. He's also an amazing guitar player. My kid has learned a lot and is proud of her guitar playing. She does the Suzuki method, and it's impressive seeing her and the other kids rattle off songs from memory."

I took Suzuki guitar lessons with Jake in elementary and middle school. The lessons were wonderful; I learned a lot through both the individual and group classes. I would highly recommend Jake to anyone looking for a guitar teacher. Thank you!
